Avon Clearskin
Review

With a wide
array of beauty and fashion products, Avon is no stranger to
the skin care industry. However, their entry into the
crowded multi-step acne kit market does a few things
differently, while playing it safe when it comes to the
intensity of their ingredients.
The Avon
Clearskin Professional Acne Treatment System is comprised of
three steps: (1) a deep pore cleansing scrub for oil control
and promoting exfoliation, (2) clarifying toner pads to wipe
away stubborn surface dirt and bacteria, and (3) a daily
correcting lotion to reduce inflammation and exfoliate some
more.
The emphasis
here is clearly on exfoliating that top layer of your skin
cells so as to unclog pores, with both salicylic acid and
glycolic acid playing prominent roles on the ingredients
list. Besides the chemicals used, this effect is also
bolstered by the delivery method, using both textured pads
and a granular scrub. This might sound rather harsh for
those with sensitive skin, but the irritation is lessened
thanks to the concentrations of the acids being on the low
side. For a system that focuses on exfoliation, Avon
Clearskin is actually fairly gentle. |

Combats surface acne with a gentler approach

Textured pads and scrub give you hands-on

Helpful for adults and anyone whose skin is
less oily than the typical acne sufferer. |

Not a solution for deep/severe acne pustules
or cysts. |

Repeated daily use can be a hassle, and it
cannot prevent future blemishes from
forming. |

Limited results for some, as the skin can
build up a resistance to salicylic acid. |

Who should try
Avon Clearskin
If you've got
acne but not oily skin, or if your skin is easily irritated
by the harsher chemicals found in many topical treatment
systems, then Avon Clearskin is probably a good alternative.
Many users report less dryness and inflammation than with
competing products. I should note that many of the glowing
reviews come from users who admit to having fairly mild
acne, so keep that in mind. Provided that your blemishes are
occasional and near the skin's surface, the exfoliation
approach used here can help.
I also like the
fact that much of that exfoliation is controlled by you.
You decide how much pressure and how long to apply the scrub
and textured pads, rather than letting the chemicals do all
the work. That means you can make the treatment either
stronger or gentler depending on how you use it.
Who should
not
try Avon Clearskin
The primary
ingredient here is salicylic acid, so if you've already
built up a resistance to it (or if you're highly sensitive
to it), then Avon Clearskin is going to prove less
effective. And while the chemicals are on the gentler side,
that means they're also going to be less effective at
stopping serious, stubborn acne. The standard drawbacks of
multi-step topicals apply: the hassle of daily use, lack of
prevention, and lack of practicality for combating acne that
isn't on your face. If you've got pustules that form deep
down or if these drawbacks are an issue for you, then you
should probably look elsewhere.
