Max Clarity Review

Max Clarity is a 3-step system (cleanser, treatment and toner) that is based on the popular combination of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. It's made by Steifel Labs, one of the largest pharmaceutical firms in the world. The main selling point here is that all three steps of the core system use foam.

What's the point of a foaming treatment? Well, the ingredients in Max Clarity are micronized, which means they use ultra-small particles that are more readily absorbed by your skin (note that micronized particles are not unique to foams, they are also found in creams and even oral vitamins). This, combined with the use of invisible leave-on foams that remain on your skin all day long, makes for a strong, deep-penetrating solution. The company also offers an acne body wash.

Max Clarity at a glance

+

Micronized ingredients allow for better penetration than typical creams and cleansers.

+

The BP + SA combination is effective against acne, if your skin can take it.

+

Leave-on foams are invisible and stronger than most wash-off solutions.

-

Foam breaks down to a very thin lotion, so as the directions say, you need to use a lot.

-

Strong ingredients + leave-on foam + no moisturizer = this stuff is harsh on your skin

-

Foaming cleanser and treatment will both bleach clothes, so be careful.

-

Have to leave it on all day, everyday for prevention.

Who should try Max Clarity

If you are looking for a topical system and need something stronger than the usual products, Max Clarity may be a good choice, just be aware that you have to apply a generous amount of the leave-on foaming treatment and toner. The micronized particles should help with pustules and possibly mild cysts, provided they are not too deep. Even if you've built up a resistance to BP and SA in standard creams and cleansers, Max Clarity's foaming delivery system may get you some extra mileage, at least for a while.

Who should not try Max Clarity

This is not an ideal treatment for people with sensitive skin, and those with only mild acne need not apply. The ingredients and delivery system can lead to dry skin and peeling, along with a higher susceptibility to sun damage that may cause premature signs of aging. Do not use this without an SPF moisturizer if you plan to spend any time outdoors.

Also, if the idea of using a multi-step system twice per day and leaving the chemicals on your face permanently sounds unpleasant, then Max Clarity isn't for you.
