Acne.org Regimen Review

Dan's Acne.org Regimen follows the familiar 3-step approach of using a cleanser, treatment and moisturizer. While it may look all-too-similar to dozens of other products at first glance, the differences here really make sense. The cleanser and moisturizer are both effective and gentle, but make no mistake, the core element of this system - and what really makes it work - is high-dose benzoyl peroxide.

In high concentrations, BP is pretty strong stuff. That's why it's usually only used like this in spot treatments. However, the Acne.org Regimen encourages using it in very liberal doses all over you face. This may prove too harsh for some, but if your skin can handle it, high-dose BP is very effective. Before discovering the Regimen, I used this technique myself with good results for several months until my skin built up a resistance. The Acne.org Regimen is also nice in that it provides a generous portion in each bottle, unlike the tiny tubes and bottles that most other products give you for the same price.

The Acne.org Regimen at a glance

High-dose 2.5% benzoyl peroxide is very potent in stopping acne.

Gel-based BP is easier on your skin than alternatives based on creams.

Moisturizer with jojoba oil is great without unneeded sunscreen.

+

Generous portions mean a good value for your money.

-

All that BP may simply be too harsh for people with sensitive or dry skin.

-

Daily multi-step treatment may prove a hassle.

-

It's still a topical, so don't expect acne prevention.

Who should try the Acne.org Regimen

If you have moderate-to-severe acne and need a really strong treatment (short of turning to prescriptions), the Regimen is a good solution. Chances are you will see some drying and irritation during the first month, but in most cases your skin will adjust and the BP will eventually become less irritating.

This is also a good solution if you need results fast. I generally recommend more natural, gentler treatments for long-term clear skin, but if you really need quick results and your skin is tough enough to handle the BP, this is one of your best bets.

Who should not try the Acne.org Regimen

The Regimen is a pretty hardcore treatment system, so if you only suffer from mild whiteheads or blackheads, it's definitely overkill. People with very sensitive skin should also steer clear. Even with the moisturizer, the high-dose BP may cause severe inflammation, rashes or peeling for some users.

Also people like myself, whose skin has developed (or will develop) a resistance to BP may find that the results don't last. Likewise, those who want to prevent future breakouts, not just eliminate current blemishes (although note that one may safely combine the Regimen with an internal treatment like Clear5).
